Policies of flexible working which have been developed in the last twenty years in France have introduced a variety of working arrangements. Within these policies aiming at more flexibility, part time work has considerably expanded, moving from 9,2% of the work force in 1982 to 17,2% in 1999. More than 80% of part-timers are women and this form of work arrangement is more often unvolontary than volontary. But, on the contrary of what happens for most of employees, part-time work for managers and professionals is very often volontary.
